Organisers, Speakers and Tutors
The Canadian Powder Diffraction Workshops started with its
first workshop back in May of 1991 and was
organised by Bruce Torrie and Brian Powell. The Rietveld software
package used in the afternoon Practical Sessions is the widely used GSAS
(General Structure Analysis System) suite written by Bob Von Dreele and
Allen Larson at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, USA. This
workshop has been fortunate over its life so far that Dr Von
Dreele (now at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago, Illinois,
USA) has and still is a regular presenter. Other returning speakers are
Angus Wilkinson of Georgia Tech; Ian Swainson and
Lachlan Cranswick, both of the National Research of Council; and it
is now overseen by Professor Jacques Huot of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières.
This workshop's more recent speaker is Thomas Proffen from the Los
Alamos based Lujan Neutron Scattering Center.
